Andhra Pradesh leads in health care services and medical education: Governor Abdul Nazeer

Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Sri S. Abdul Nazeer has presided over the 27th & 28th annual convocation of the University held at Thummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Tuesday.
Delivering the Convocation Address, Governor Sri Abdul Nazeer has said that Andhra Pradesh has always been in the forefront of health care services and medical education and we can proudly say that Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, established in 1986 was the first of its kind University in the country. He said that on the medical education front, the State has been making rapid progress compared to the rest of the country and South India.
The Governor said that one new medical college has become functional in the remote tribal area of Paderu in Alluri Sitharama Raju District, in addition to 34 existing medical colleges in the State and action has also been taken to fill vacancies in various categories of Medical and Health department. He further said that the Post Graduate Medical Courses in the specialties of Aneasthesiology and Radiation Oncology have become functional at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Visakhapatnam.
The Governor also said that the health care education today is a difficult and challenging field to enter and once you enter, the students must commit themselves to a lifelong journey of hard work, commitment, sincerity and education – to keep up with the rapid advances in health care and to provide health and therapeutics services to all the needy persons. He also said that unlike other professions, people expect and demand practitioners of medical profession to provide best and unconditional services and they have a fiduciary duty and responsibility towards the society and they may sometimes have to bear a lot of pain and suffering, and sometimes they may have to sacrifice their personal interests, so that the patient may live for another day, or that a family may enjoy their dear ones coming back home hale and healthy.
Governor Sri Abdul Nazeer has congratulated the students who received their degrees, gold medals and merit certificates during the Convocation. He also congratulated Dr. O.P. Yadava, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Cardiac Surgeon, National Hearth Institute, New Delhi, Chief Guest of the Convocation, on being conferred the Honorary Doctorate by the University. Dr. P. Chandra Sekhar, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, read out the annual reports of the University.
Later, Dr. P. Chandra Sekhar, Vice Chancellor felicitated Sri Abdul Nazeer, Governor & Chancellor of the University with shawl and a memento, on behalf the University. Dr. M. Hari Jawaharlal, E.O. Secretary to Governor, Sri P.S. Suryaprakash, Joint Secretary, and other dignitaries attended the Convocation.
